As of June 2025, both Brighton & Hove City Council and East Sussex County Council have updated their eligibility and assessment criteria for home care support. Here's what you need to know:

What’s New?

1. Accelerated Assessments in Brighton & HoveBrighton & Hove City Council has committed to reducing the average wait time for care needs assessments. Residents now typically receive an initial decision within four weeks of application.

2. Enhanced Personal Budget Allocations in East SussexEast Sussex County Council has increased the value of certain Direct Payments, providing families with greater flexibility to arrange their own care services, including selecting providers like Amaiva.

3. Clarified Eligibility ThresholdsBoth councils continue to adhere to the Care Act 2014 criteria, with recent clarifications on what constitutes a “substantial” impact on wellbeing. This adjustment may result in more individuals qualifying for publicly funded care who were previously deemed ineligible.
