At Amaiva Home Care, we understand that arranging care for yourself or a loved one can be both emotional and complex. One of the most common concerns we encounter is around funding—specifically, whether any help is available and how to access it.
As of 2025, both Brighton & Hove City Council and East Sussex County Council continue to provide support for eligible residents through free or subsidised home care funding. This guide explains the criteria, processes, and how Amaiva can support you throughout.
Who Qualifies for Free Home Care?
Free or part-funded home care is available to individuals whose care needs meet certain thresholds under the Care Act 2014. Both councils assess:
Your physical and mental health needs
The level of support you require for daily living
Your financial situation (means-tested)
Financial Eligibility: Key Thresholds for 2025
Assessments are conducted on an individual basis, even if you live with a partner or spouse. However, any jointly held assets are typically considered on a 50% basis unless otherwise evidenced.
Upper capital limit: £23,250
Lower capital limit: £14,250
Between these amounts: You may need to contribute to your care
Below £14,250: Your assets are disregarded in the assessment
Important: Your primary home is not counted in the financial assessment if a spouse, partner, or dependent still lives there.
Income Protection – Minimum Income Guarantee (MIG)
After any care charges, you must still be left with a protected amount of weekly income:
Single (pension age): £232.60 per week
Couple (pension age): £177.55 per person, per week
